ESBC has responded hrough a letter in Burton Mail to the claim by the Anglesey Parish Council that reason for 276% increase in council tax is due to non co-operation of ESBC.
Apparently ESBC are still awaiting full cost estimate for the changing rooms. If this is the case, then how can Anglesey Parish Council justify such a massive increase in the Council Tax.
The Parish Council needs to explain the situation to its residents why they are made to pay such increase in the current economic climate.

176% increase in Council Tax
Anglesey Parish Council has decided in its meeting last Thursday to increase the Parish precept by 176%.
This decision is utterly unjustified in the current economic climate and in one of the most impovrished wards in the Country. People are really concerned about their jobs, bills and livelihoods. No one needs extra tax burden and certainly not to such a ridiculous extent.
There was strong public opposition to this decision after Burton Mail highlighted the issue after last months meeting. However public out cry went unnoticed as Parish Councillors had no intention to change their mind.

Burton Village
When the idea of Burton Village development or redevelopment of Heritage Brewery, Goat Malting and surrounding land was conceived, it was meant to be a self contained area with residential properties supported by retail (convenient) store.
However last month the developer was granted planning to change retail area to residential area.
Apparently the developer believes that retail area in not viable due to close proximity of the Town Centre and easy walking distance.
The Town Centre was there when:
1) the design brief or master plan for the site was prepared
2) the Council invested around £1.2m to regenerate this area to achieve the vision which included redevelopment of Goat Malting building & self contained development. I also remember discussions around recycling station which was supposed to be located in the car park of the retail area.
3) the developer sold most of the residential properties indicating a convenient store to serve local residents.
Now the plan has changed and ESBC planners have changed their mind for no good reason. It seems that developers are running the show in ESBC!

Cold spell
The bitterly cold weather continues. Most of the roads and pavements are covered with black ice and are very dangerous. But there is last minute Xmas shopping rush too. The Town Centre was very busy today which is a good sign in the current economic climate.
Apparently 70% of shoppers tomorrow will be men. Typical men, totally disorganised and in mad panic.

Speed Humps
Speed humps have been quite useful to control the speed of traffic. However they have not been maintained properly. In very cold weather where water is collected and frozen, the tarmac breaks up very quickly. Most speed hums in Anglesey road are breaking up and require urgent repair. Conservative controlled Staffordshire County Council is responsible for maintenance of the roads and they don't appear to undertake routine maintenance and essential repairs.

Alex Fox resignation
We have learnt from Burton Mail today that Alex Fox has resigned from the Borough Council.
The timing of the resignation is a bit strange. Last time I saw Alex a few weeks ago, he was in good spirits and did not look like someone who was feeling the strain and wanted to quit.
